Which Moving Expense I should deduct. Please help
    Hi,
I was in F1-OPT (till Sep-2013) and H1B (from Oct-Dec2013) and I am an non-Resident alien (Student from India).
    This is my moving scenario.
I moved from NY to India (during Dec 2012) and stayed there for sometimes (vacation) and Moved again From India to Seattle (during Feb-2013) for my Job in Seattle. My employer reimbursed this amount as Wages and not as W2 12 p.
Now my question is which expenses I can deduct ?
    1. NY- Seattle - In this case, the move started in 2012 itself. Will that be fine ? Can I remove my expenses for India trip and deduct only the amounts which would have cost me if I directly move from Ny to Seattle ?
    2. India - Seattle - In this case, am I allowed to deduct this moving ? As I am moving from outside of United States ?
    Kindly let me know .
    Thanks

You will have to deduct for the move from NY to Seattle; leave India OUT of the scenario as that is considered to be a personal trip.

Determine what the airfare from NY to Seattle would be and claim that as your airfare.
