Tax file for interns in the US
    Good morning to everyone

So tax season is round the corner and I have few questions if you don't mind me asking.

I've been an international intern in the US for the last 4 months (and have another 8 ahead of me). My internship is paid on a per diem basis but the hourly equivalent doesn't reach the state's minimum wage (once again, it's an internship). I was wondering if it would make sense to file taxes, if so, what's the standard procedure? Am I required to?

    Thank you very much beforehand

    Tony,

If you earned OVER $3,900, then you are REQUIRED to file a non-resident alien tax return (Form 1040NR), plus Form 2106 to claim daily living expenses. You probably will NOT have to pay any taxes due to the Form 2106 writeoff, but you still need to file.

If you need professional help, this is what I do! Email me at the email address in my profile if interested.
