    Drain
    Hello,
    I have a new washer that doesn't drain completely. The drain is 61/2 ft above the washer. Never had a problem drain before, any ideas?

    The drain should be even with the back, not above it. It has probably worn some. Lower the drain and it will work. New washers drain faster.

    Hmmm...

    Are you sure the drain is "6.5 feet" ABOVE the washer....that would make it so that you have 10 foot ceilings in the basement...pretty unlikely there! Now, I have seen plenty of homes where the drains are up high, say 3 feet above the washer and that is not ideal, but most washers can pump up to 8 feet off the ground without too much difficulty!

    How exactly is your washing machine drain hooked up to the drain pipe? Is it connected in a solid way that won't allow water to flow back or is it connected so that the washer discharge hose just hangs into the drain pipe? If it is directly connected you could have a partial blockage of the drain pipe...drain would need to be snaked. If it is indirectly connected, then a clogged drain is more unlikely.

    If the drain is not the issue, I am Assuming that the drain is at a fixed height that cannot be lowered I would think there is a problem with the washing machine and Tom should be able to help with that, but clear us up on the drain situation, OK?

    It's best to gain an understanding because you are there with it and can best troubleshoot it. If you can tell us what model you have I can send a manual or two.
