    The odd shaped kitchen strainer
    How do I find a stainer basket that fits down in the sink with notches on it . The sink is 1976

    You may be able to unscrew and replace the drain from the sink from underneath, replace it, and reconnect the pipe. Then you can get a standard strainer.

    That was what home depot said, it's a step above my experience I will try it as a last resort. Thank you!

    It is really quite easy. Unscrew the nut for the tailpiece and remove the tailpiece, unscrew the basket nut, you hay need to use some elbow grease on it, remove the old one. Place a plumbers putty ring around the basket, press the basket into the opening, install the bottom gasket, ring and nut, tighten well, install the tailpiece. Clean off the plumbers putty from the sink ring. Check a You Tube video "removing sink strainer basket".
