    Questions about H1B & J2 taxes
    Hello,

I have some questions for taxes for 2006.
Here is my case: I arrived in Feb 2006 with H1B visa and changed to J2 status in July 2006. My husband arrived at US in July 2005 with J1 visa. I got work permission in Oct 2006 and found a job. I’m not sure which 1040 form I can choose, resident or noresident. Is there any advantage of filing taxes together? If we do decide to file together, what are the appropriate forms that we need to fill out?

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Maggie

You need to file separate returns as non-resident aliens. Your visa status dictates this choice.
