Why does my toilet tank leak water when I take a shower
Both toilet tanks leak water during and after a shower neither toilet have been flushed or used this does not happen every single time it happens once a week twice a week... why is this happening what can the problem be? Delete the water that leaks comes out at the scene between that tank bottom and the floor... the water is not dirty so I do not think its coming from the toilet.

    Hi Grey

It sounds like you may have a partial blockage to the drain system. Here, when you run enough water and the drain system is clogged (partial clog or complete clog) water will back up and out the lowest fixtures (can be the wax gasket at the toilets if wax gaskets are weakly sealed or the shower or sink depending on levels in the house).

Are the shower and toilets all on the same floor level? If so, and this is the main floor level then you may have a MAIN DRAIN CLOG or if you have a septic system, the system could be full.

Someone will need to lift the toilet and snake the drain, or they will need to find a cleanout to snake the proper drain. When finished clearing the drain BOTH toilets will need to have new wax gaskets installed as the gaskets in place are compromised and will allow sewer gasses into the home if the gaskets are not replaced! Ugh!!

    Back to you...

Greetings mark the house is all one level it's both the master bathroom and main bathroom in the hall they're both on the same on the same level. May I ask another question that may sound stupid um so is it water from the showers and not actual water from the actual toilet tanks even though the seepage is coming from the between the floor and the bottom of the toilet? Hope this makes sense

All on the same level suggests that the MAIN DRAIN is partially clogged. Here, to test this, find the MAIN CLEANOUT, remove the cap and then fill a tub and drain the water (or use full washing machine) and see if water comes up and out the cleanout. If water backs out the cleanout then the main drain needs to be cleaned/cleared.

All water in main drains is "sewer water". Although you primarily see water show up at the toilet when taking a shower, it is still all connected and is raw sewage. Clean up can be done using a simple 10% bleach solution to clean up.

If you are on city/town sewer, the main cleanout is usually outside about 18" off the foundation wall brought to grade....usually at the front of the building. Otherwise, you may find it inside under a stairwell or in a closet...;)

Major Water Leak repaired today - now toilet tank won't fill. [ 18 Answers ]

Heck. We had someone come out to do a leak detection, and he found it - 4 feet from the meter. The water was shut off all day while he made the repair (he had to remove tons of rock to get to the bad piping). Great! Leak fixed! He's gone, now my toilet tank won't fill. Could it be air in the...

Leak in toilet water tank, i.e. rising level [ 2 Answers ]

Hi there First question on here I fear we have a leak in the inner works of the toilet cistern/tank, the floating ball and outlet valve all seem correct, I'm guessing there is an issue with one of the seals, when the tanks emptied I can't see any visible dripping, overnight the water level rises...

Can a backed up toilet lead to leakage from the shower and tub and burst water tank? [ 5 Answers ]

Last year our toilet was backed up due to the children putting toys in it. My father lift the toilet up, got the toys out but the toilet still wouldn't flush even after everything we’ve tried. So we came up to the conclusion to invest in another toilet. A few months ago when we ran the water to...

Toilet tank Leak [ 3 Answers ]

I have a Kohler Rialto toilet #K3402. The float valve threaded connection that goes through the toilet and ties to water line is leaking. I changed the tank gasket and even the braided hose. It is still leaking. The only thing I'm thinking is I overtightened the connection. Could that have caused...

Toilet tank leak [ 1 Answers ]

Our powder room toilet drain was installed 1/2" too close to the back wall. The top of the tank hits the drywall preventing it from sitting level on the bowl. The rubber gasket between the tank & bowl, apparently doesn't compress enough in the back & it leaks. Shy of relocating the drain further...
