BF just got offered a job and had to take a hair test. He had a few puffs of very week marijuana at the beginning of December, test was yesterday. Prior to that he has had a few hits maybe 4 or 5 times throughout the past year. The hair was taken from his chest. What are his chances of passing?

Nobody can guess... and a guess has no value... all that matters is the actual results from the lab.

People always tend to under estimate what they use and how often it was. And none of them knows the potency of it. And all of them are factors.

Well I do know that it was very weak stuff and that he has only done it a handful of times in the past year and only a couple hits each time. We are hoping for the best but understand it was his fault if he fails it... prior to this past year he hadn't done it since high school!! An ex girlfriend gave him some very weak stuff the beginning of last year and he would smoke a couple hits every now and again, not even monthly, when he was feeling a little depressed as he was laid off most of the year last year. So, we hope it didn't royally screw him from the job of a lifetime.. but if it did, there's nothing he can do but move on :( would feel a bit more confident if they took scalp hair, but his hair was too short and they took from his chest...

Weak is a relative term... most all of it is sgnificantly stronger than what was around when I was that age 30+ years ago due to breeding. And the stronger it is... the less usage is needed for it to be detectible.

I hate to admit it but I actually took a couple hits from it and it really did absolutely nothing for me. That is why I say it was very weak. I had not done anything stronger than nicotine since I was 19 and I am 41 now :)

A hair drug test is meant to show consistent use over time. A 1.5 inch sample, cut at the scalp line, will go back 90 days. Body hair goes dormant so the test results (at least the test results I provide) will say "body hair approximately 1 year time period". Usaully if it is a test from an employer they will use a basic hair drug test that has higher cutoff levels which means you could do a little bit of drug and still be negative. At this point I would say he should be negative but if the use the limits of detection (LOD) hair drug test he might have a problem passing. But you won't know which test they used until you get results and see the cutoff levels. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the responses. I just wanted to advise that he DID pass!! We of course are quite happy and the days of even a puff here and there are over as there are random tests where he will be employed and never want to have to worry about this again!! :)
