18, the "child" usually only responds to the wishes of the parent, therfore no court is going to allow this, unless the father goes along. Is there something wrong, with the Dad?

Yes 18 basically, often courts are afraid unless there is cause shown in court that one parent will try to stop the visitation in various methods
So normally the court will require the visitation and the child has to do what the parents tell them.

If there is a reason not to visit, the parent can file a motion in the court for varoius restrictions on visits.

The age of majority, which is 18. A minor can also apply for emancipation at an earlier age IF the minor is self supporting, has his/her OWN place of residence, has substantially completed his/her education.

In the eyes of the law the "adopted family" IS the legal family, but I'm sure you know this.
