How to stop water from coming out of the toilet main pipe line
I wanted to check to see if my toilet is leaking, the water company said I have a small leak inside the house somewhere, so I drained the toilet tank to replace the pump and things inside the tank, I took off the hose from underneath which attaches to the pipe from the wall,, I turn that valve off too, but there is still a slow amount of water coming from the hose, so I took off the valve to replace it with a new one, and water was coming from the pipe itself, if the main water valve is shut off why is there water coming from the pipe?

    Hi Chrissy

It could simply be water stuck in the water main IF you didn't open all faucets and drain the residual water off that is hung up in the water pipes of the entire home. Here, if water isn't drained from all the pipes, air will come into the system and slowly displace the water that is stuck in the pipes (via a vacuum)...leads to that annoying drip, drip, drip!

It could also be that the main water shut is defective and needs to be replaced. This, of course, would require replacing the main water shutoff to totally resolve. For now, if this is the case, you could always break the union/nut at the water METER and let water drip out there while you work on the shutoff at the toilet.

Try opening all the faucets in the home (catch water at shutoff with pan or towel) and see if that doesn't stop the water from flowing.
