    How do I achieve abs?
Hi everyone I'm new to all this!

I have being going to the gym for the past 3 years or so and I am not making any progress! - I have being trying to work on my abs with not a lot of success.

I have changed my diet, and have cut out all sugary foods and fatty foods! To no real change - any advice?

    Thanks,

Do they have personal trainers at the gym ? If so, that is a good place to start for work outs that will benefit your abs.

Resistance training is key, but you must train the whole body, so if your watching what you eat, eatting lots of fruits, whole grains, veggies, lean meats, and lots of water your doing good. Bit it takes aerobic exercise, abs training, even weight/resistance training. If your working out at a gym, ask them to give you a few pointers.

Sit ups help me when I work on my abs, I don't know the specific name of the machine I used but it's a bench that's on a 45 degree angle and there are places for you feet, its meant for sit ups. If the gym you go to has these try getting flat weights and hold them into your chest as you sit up. (thats the best way I can describe this machine PM me if you want to know more about this thing)

Men's health has a WONDERFUL book on abs. You can get it at Kroger.

There are actually five different muscle groups you must work out in order to get those great abs (upper, lower, obliques, back, and transverse abdominus). Anyone telling you to do 1000 sit ups per night is full-o-hogwash.

Additionally, you have to burn the belly fat covering your abdominal muscles. You got to start running or cycling or something of that nature... and you got to do it HARD. Your body uses carbs as energy, and once a certain region is depleted of that, it will start burning fats.

Third... you HAVE to eat right. I base my diet on limiting fat storage. Basically, don't eat fats and carbs together. Lots of protein + carbs and lots of protein + fats, but limited fats + carbs. Goodbye Italian food.

Try Michaelina's lean gourmet. Look for foods with 6 grams of fat or less.

And mostly, stick to working out. Stick to eating right. Work out abs just like any other muscle group--a max of two or three times per week. Do cardio three or four, and eat right about 85-90% of your meals.

The link Aldeech pointed to is actually straight out of the Men's Health book I have! Those exercise target the five groups. (I think it's five... it may be six).
