Upstairs washing machine overflows into basement sink
The main floor washing machine overflows into our basement bathroom sink. It also gurgles into the dishwasher drain. My brother-in-law tried to fix it, but to no avail.

Sounds like you have a blockage in the main drain, after the downstairs sink. Snake from the downstairs sink drain. If you dishwasher gurgles the dishwasher drain is not properly installed.
