    Apt Legal?
    How do I find out if an apartment is legal in Smithtown, NY
    The landlord sued me for damages when the apt was in better condition when
    I left than when I moved in and I believe the apt is illegal and want to countersue

    You can check with the town dept of buildings. However, what makes you think the apt being illegal allows you to countersue?

    What is the status of the landlord's suit?
