Theft Under $5000 - First Offence and over 18
Hi, I'm a 20 year old male, living in Ontario, Canada and made the ridiculously stupid mistake of trying to shoplift a $90 bottle of cologne from the Bay. I was apprehended by the Bay security, processed by them and a mall cop and banned from the Bay and the Mall. Afterwards I was processed by a police officer and given an appearance notice for finger prints and photo id to be taken and given a second date to appear for my first court date.

I was curious as to what I could expect the punishment to be. I'm not under 18, and the value of what I stole ($90) was higher and was not a necessary item or anything. This is my first offence, I was highly co-operative and there was no damage done to the bottle.

I read about other people getting a diversion program on their first offence to avoid a criminal record, is this also available for above 18 year olds?

    Thanks
