    Child Support Jurisdiction
I have been trying to get Mn child support terminated for myself, seeing that both children reside with me. Neither I or the mom live in Mn anymore. I reside in In, I believe she resides in Wi and Mn holds the order non-pubic asst case. Mn claims they have no jurisdiction to close the case even though they have proof I have the child and they do not have a verifiable address for the mom. Indiana has given me the run around, you must go here, no you have to apply here and so on. I don't have the money that the lawyers are asking because the case is still a Mn case. Mn actually what's to close this matter, seeing that I have being going through this for almost 10+ years. What advise can you give in this situation?

Is this a court order from Minnesota (The abbreviation for Minnesota is "Minn.", not "Mn.". "MN" woud be the two-letter postal abbreviation.) for child support, or is it from some sort of administrative agency?

Yes, this is a Minnesota court order filed in 1999.

OK, then you need to file a motion with the Minnesota court to modify the support order. Indicate that the chidren are now with you; explain how and when this happened, etc. You should, of course, copy the mother with everything you file. The court should grant your motion to modify the decree under the circumstances.

I have found that in many backward parts of the country judges won't do anything without a hearing. If this is so with that court, ask to schedule a hearing and ask for permission to attend by telephone, if attendance by you in person is a problem.
