    Dividends Per Share
    Hays-Smith Company has 18,000 shares of 4% cumulative preferred stock of $125 par and 50,000 shares of $40 par common stock. The following amounts were distributed as dividends:

    Year 1: $72000
    Year 2: 125000
    Year 3: 160000


    Determine the dividends per share for preferred and common stock for each year. If an answer is zero, enter '0'. Round all answers to the nearest whole cent.

    Total Preferred Stock Common Stock
    Year 1 $ $ 72000 72000 -0-
    Year 2 $ $125000 90000+18000 17000
    Year 3 $ $160000 90000 70000

    Preferred dividend = 18000 shares x $125 x 4% = 90,000
