    What kind of ant
It's a big bug. Fuzzy red with black stripes. Kind of resembles a bee and an ant but doesn't fly. Pretty hard to kill. I've seen pictures of a velvet ant or cowkiller ant and it doesn't look to be the same as to what I'm referring to.

The Velvet Ant is what comes to mind. Where are you located? Is it possible to get a picture of it?

Velvet Ant wasps come in a variety of colors. You can find red, white, yellow, orange, just about any color. The common factor is the female spending some time wingless and the furry appearance. Here's my favorite (I think a filter was used)
