What can I do while looking for a new home, my landlord is bullying me
Over 6 years ago my boy friend and I moved into a building with 8 rowhouses. Everything was great with the landlord. Then we broke up and my BF moved out. My landlord started emailing me insisting I needed a man and that I must be lonely. I was creeped out but loved living here. I never lead him on just repeatedly told him I was fine. Finally he wrote me and said he was unhappy with his marriage. He wanted a nice lady to talk to, make love to and to have a special friendship. I told him there was no such thing as a nice lady that would sleep with a married man. I thought I handled it well. I have a bird which was never a problem when he thought I was desperate whore. Now he says my bird is bothering all the other neighbors and they don't want to tell me to my face because they are afraid of me. I asked my neighbors about it they told me he has been asking them questions about me. Plus telling them weird stories about me. One neighbor said he did not even know I had a bird. A few neighbors have found his behavior so disturbing they are also looking.

I always pay my rent, I am good neighbor and take good care of the place. He has been harassing and bullying me. He says he comes around when I am not home and my birds cries for long period of times. At first I did not believe him but the other day I was up stairs and the landlord came by and called out "knock knock is anyone home" My bird was terrified just by the sound of his voice. He cried out, I ran down stairs once my bird saw me he was fine. I have know idea why my bird is terrified of my landlord. I can only guess.

I am looking for a new place but it will take time. I Reminded him I still have all the emails and that I can document when the bulling started. He has stopped bulling me for right now. I have to work so my pets are home alone, I can't be there 24/7. I am 57 years old and don't have a place to go.

    Hello f:
I am looking for a new place but it will take time.
I'm more interested in the LEGAL aspects of your situation, rather than the story.. You didn't say that he's given you notice, or that you've given him yours, so it looks like you've got all the time you need.

If something is different, please tell me.

If you are worried about this person hurting your bird and/or entering your apartment when you aren't around you could always consider installing a "nanny cam"... comes in various setups like a book, a clock, etc. Check out some here at ebay:

Just a thought if you are really worried about this person... ;)

You don't say whether you are on a termed lease or are month to month. If the latter, then either of you can terminate your tenancy probably with 30 days notice. (Note: any question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area. The amount on notice required is one of those things that vary).
