Hot Water Tank / Anode Rod??
Were in a Country setting drawing from a Well and all.. Were dealing with Iron Content in the water and a sometimes Sulphur smell.. We have a UV Light and had a heavy duty Water Softener if you will installed Dec/2011, we use the Rust Remover salt from Windsor... Around the beginning of Summer we had to Replace the Hot Water tank...
From December 2011 till a month ago issues with Rust Stains and the occasional sulphur smell were gone... We had gone away for approximately 10 days.. First day back the Wife decides to soak in a Hot Bath, she had added her smelly salts and so on and left the tub to fill up.. Coming back to check the Water was Black.. Needless to say the walls of the Tub were caked with a Black Film when the tub was drained... Turn on the Hot Water and a Black like charcoal residue came out for a couple minutes before running somewhat clear...
I contacted the Water Softener people and their Tech told me to set the machine to Immediately go through the Backwash cycle.. At the time that seemed to clear up the problem till now.. Were back to the Sulphur Smell and a Charcoal like residue pouring out of the Hot Water Tap.. My Question is this, Would my problem appear to be from the Hot Water Tank or something to do with the Settings on the Water Softener? Thanks

What is the procedure for replacing the anode that is screwed into the top of an electric hot water tank? In theory it's supposed to be easily replaced, but in real life getting any fitting unscrewed after many years can be a risky. Any tricks or just brute strength? I haven't change it. I...
