    Cpvc connections
    Working on replacing my hot water heater which is connected using CPVC. How long does CPVC glue take to cure before turning on the water? Is a primer needed for potable water connections? And what color cpvc glue is recommended for potable water connections?

    Some CPVC glues is self priming. If the CPVC pipe had a yellow or gold stripe, use the yellow colored CPVC glue. All of the glues are potable rated. Just don't slop a lot into the pipe or you will taste it for a while. Wait 20-30 minutes to be sure bond is tight before turning the water back on. Is the CPVC fitting directly on the tank or through a dielectric fitting?

    Thanks for the information, the CPVC will be attached to the tank through a dielectric fitting. Anything else I need to worry about?

    You really don't need a dielectric fitting but it removes the heat from the CPVC. PEX is replacing CPVC but it is still my plumbing choice. Good luck.

    Most codes require installing a minimum of 18" (24" in my state) of copper tubing before transitioning over to CPVC or PEX and also require that the CPVC/PEX be a minimum of 6" from the gas flue pipe if you have a gas water heater here.

    Looks like you still need that dielectric fitting after all... ;)
