    Shower Drain problems
In our apartment, the walk-in shower is emitting a smell. The maintenance
People came in and worked on it pretty hard and tried snaking and cleaning
It out. It hasn't really helped. We also notice that water is still sitting in the
Pipe just under the floor. It never goes away so it doesn't seem to be draining
Out. When the shower is turned on, the smell comes out. They said to add
A lot of bleach often. They did try hard as my wife was here watching. I don't
Think that water should be sitting there, but not sure. Perhaps there is a clog
Further down the line. I do see clean-outs in the ground outside. I wonder
If they should have checked them. Or could the pipe be at an angle where
The water cannot drain off now.

Water is found to be standing at all times in a shower drain (all drains) because of the PTRAP. The PTRAP has water in it at all times to keep sewer gasses from entering the home.

Can't speak to the smell... work with maintenance people for best result!

Shower drain assembly problems in basement [ 2 Answers ]

I finished my plumbing - an addition of a shower drain to a half bath rough in- and poured my concrete today. But I didn't like the idea of leaving 6" of a hole around the new drain pipe for drain assembly though. I foresee(maybe incorrectly) that that type of a gap could cause cracking of the pan...
