    F1(OPT) to H1B status.How to get refunds.
    Hi All,
I have been on OPT till OCT 1st 2006 with one company and then with H1B with another since then.
My first w2 does not have any deductions for SS and medicare but the second does.
While filing for tax refunds in TaxACT online I was getting good refund for the first w2.But when I enterred the second w2 refunds reduced considerably.
How do I file then.. how do I let IRS know about the change of status.
    Please advise..
    Thanks
    :)

Combine the amounts of Box #1 and #2 on the federal tax return.

However, you CANNOT use TaxAct Online to file. You must file as a non-resident alien, filing Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, and those forms CANNOT BE FILED ELECTRONICALLY! They MUST be mailed.

The IRS will know about the status change when they review your return.

I have been in US for more than 5 years in F1 visa..
Does this mean I am no longer Nonresident Alien.

Would have been nice if you had mentioned that in your original posting.

Yes, you ARE a resident alien because of your over-five-year stay in the U.S.
