What is dilution?
What exactly is a failed test for dilution? I tend to drink about 2 liters of water a day, as the mayo clinic says that is healthy for a male. If I drink 2 liters a day EXCEPT on my test date, will that be better?

Yes, I have another question open on the same forum. I had a job interview yesterday(Friday) that I had just found out about on Thursday. It's driving around people at an inpatient treatment center. At the interview, they informed me that they want me to take an EtG test on Wednesday. I wasn't even aware they didn't want me drinking when I applied, or I wouldn't have.

Dilution is drinking tons of water in the hope to dilute and wash out any alcohol in the system before an EtG test. Usually it means a fail for the test.
Driving medical patients kind of assumes no drinking would be permitted, wouldn't it?
How much alcohol have you been drinking?

I drank about 2.5 liters of vodka and 30 beers over a week period, and the last day I drank was Tuesday night, would an EtG test be positive the following Wednesday(as in 8 days later)? My question is does the amount of alcohol and length of the drinking affect the EtG test, or is the general ~80 hours (depending on the individual) apply, regardless?
Yes, I would definitely assume so, but I had applied over a month ago, and was just assuming they had hired someone else.
Drinking tons of water before the test, as in the same day?

Given that time frame, and the fact that it's for a job and not probation, you will probably be OK and pass... except I am not sure how much water will cause dilution. You are probably better off not drinking so much water for a day or 2 before.
Also, a lecture here... if you do get this job, I really hope this "binge drinking" that you just did is the last of it. A beer or 2 now and then is not a problem when you are off duty but binge drinking... you are talking about people's lives.

Drinking tons of water for more than a day seems to be what is tried.
Our EtG expert is not posting right now. I don't know the answer to your 80 hours question. Hopefully, one of our medical experts will see this and respond.
How old are you?
According to your other thread about night vision (plus this one), maybe this isn't the job for you. I know jobs are hard to find right now, but are you willing to put yourself and others in danger?

I'm 25. I'm actually going to go see an optometrist as soon as possible about the night vision. Hopefully he can help with it. I'll talk to him about the new job as well and see what he thinks. No, I'm not willing to put anyone in danger. It's possible that I could make my hours during the morning and afternoon only, though.
Jobs are definitely hard to find right now, so if I do pass the upcoming test, and the doctor says everything is okay, I won't even be having that beer or two when off-duty. Never know when a test would be coming up, and it wouldn't be worth it.
"Drinking tons of water for more than a day seems to be what is tried." Tried by people to help pass, or tried, then causes a failure for dilution?

They think it will happily flush the alcohol out of their system, but all too often it just makes the urine clear (one tip-off to the tester) and doesn't flush like they think it will. The liver processes alcohol at its own speed, despite the water.
