    Orange roots!

I had highlights put in my hair a couple of weeks ago. She put in a couple of different colors (varying shades of light brown, blonde) and it looked great. Then I got home and they looked a little too golden,orange-y, brassy for me (I usually look better in an ashy tone) so I went to Sally's and asked for a toner. The girl directed me to a violet based toner and a volume 20 developer. Well, long story short, my roots ended up orange. I had no idea that the developer contained peroxide (my fault for not reading the label) I had the girl at the salon bleach more highlights at the roots to kind of break up the orangeness and she put a toner on it as well, but I left in tears because it didn't make much of a difference; still orange. With blonde highlights. Then, I went to the store and got a medium ash brown semipermanent color and put it just on my roots, praying that this would cancel out the orange. Nope. Still orange. I love how the rest of my hair looks, it's just the roots. How can I get rid of this??

If your roots are orange, do not use a 20-volume peroxide developer with your toner. The 20-volume developer will make the roots lighter. Instead, use a 10-volume developer with a blue-base toner. This will nuetralize the orange tones in your hair.

Is this for future reference or can I do this now to get rid of the orange? :o

You can re-color your hair right away if it's in good condition.
