The pain started suddenly and is sharp and intense, it has not faded and has been there for about 7 minutes. Should I be worried?

I'm a bit confused 38 + 5 weeks pregnant, means you're 43 weeks pregnant. Why have they not induced you at 43 weeks? Or are you 38 weeks plus 5 days pregnant?

If this pain worries you, call your OBGYN. It could be labor, it could be something else. You stated that the pain has lasted for 7 minutes, that's not enough time to determine if it's labor. If it's 7 minutes of continuous pain, no break, I'd call a your doctor.

Bottom line, we can't diagnose online, so we really can't tell you if you should be worried or not. This is your call, you have to decide whether to call your doctor, go to the hospital, or just wait at home. This is totally up to you. You really won't get any valid advice online.

    Good luck.
