We took our 4-y.o. dachshund, Marley, to his Vet because several of the foods he was eating were on the MenuFoods.com recall list (by specific UPC codes for Nutro Natural Choice).

We noticed also that Marley appeared to be exhibiting for over a week prior to the MenuFoods press release several of the symptoms mentioned on their website, including lethargy, lack of appetite, and both excessive thirst and urinating.

Fortunately, Marley's blood and urine tests came back normal for thyroid, liver, and kidney levels. However, he had an elevated whiteblood cell count and a mild fever. The Vet prescribed an antibiotic (clavamox) for a week.

Marley is on his 5th day of the medication. He is still lethargic, lacks appetite and over the last four days has shown difficulty walking. It looks as though one of Marley's rear legs is giving out in its ability to adequately support him. He does not appear to be in pain generally or when we touch his legs. Yet, his gait is slow and wobbly, and he occasionally stumbles. He weighs about 19-pounds.

Any feedback as to what Marley's problem may be or what we should do would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would continue to work with your vet. I am sure your vet is well aware of the many things that it could be. I doubt others saying what caused similar symptoms in their dog will be helpful.

I am an owner of two westies. They are brother and sister and two yrs old. The female has the symptoms you are describing and more. She was diagnosed with Shaker dog syndrome. I consider myself fortunate that we have a vet that had heard of this. It goes by a lot of names and if you surf the web, try shaker white dog syndrome. It can affect all small dogs regardless of breed or color. It seems to me that its like a dogs version of Parkinson. My opinion not the vets.
Lady is on prednisone and her symptoms have now disappeared with the exception of being very skittish. Her appetite has come back and the use of her right front leg. Good luck
