X-ray images are formed by passing x-rays through your body onto a film or receptor. It is much like taking a normal picture but the film or sensor is sensitive to a different wavelength of Electro Magnetic Radiation.

The colour of the film goes from clear to black based upon the amount of radiation that hits the film. If there is a LOT of radiation hitting the film then it will black. If there is minimal amounts then it will be closer to clear. The image is based upon what blocks the radiation and how much of it is being blocked.

I am not a doctor but just clever and know how to use Google. I am not going to venture what actually mean. What I am going to do is tell you what a few words mean and let you interpret this for yourself.

Soft tissue is tissue that is soft. Muscle, heart, and breasts are a good examples of soft tissue. Hard tissue is tissue that is hard. Teeth, bone, orthopaedic implants, and other hard things, not a erect penis though that is still soft tissue, are examples of hard tissue. Soft tissue generally doesn't really show up on an x-ray unless you have a lot of it in the way or you're using low amounts of radiation. Hard tissue will almost always show up an x-ray.

Parenchyma is the function bits of an organ. The filters in the kidney, or the air sacks in your lungs for example.
