You weaken the joists if you to that... because that is the most critical point because they are under tension (The top half is under compression)... cut them deep enough anyplace and the floor can collapse under load.

Hang them below the joists... even if it means lowering the ceiling.

Harold is correct, can't notch top or bottom but can bore in the core area as described in Harolds attachment. I'd use PEX which can be crimped

Hey all. The street I live on was paved last spring. They did a nice job and added a curb on both sides of the road to keep the road water on the road where it belongs. My yard, however, is washboard flat and before the re-paving and curb was just above the road grade. Now, it is slightly below...

Notch deck posts with router? Or skip the notching? [ 13 Answers ]

I'm building a deck and considering the easiest yet strong railing option. I like the vertical 2x4 on the inside of the post, one just off the deck and one just under a cap of 2x6 (actually Trex 1x6). I did this before, notching the posts about 1", which looked nice and had good support. 12190 ...

Accidentally Went Through Bottom of Joist [ 10 Answers ]

Anyway my bit ended up coming out of the bottom of the joist. The joist was already...
