Hi,
I'm moving into a townhouse that doesn't have a laundry. There is room for a washer/dryer in the kitchen, but obviously no laundry taps to connect the washing machine to. Is it possible to connect taps to the existing hot and cold water pipes that lead to the kitchen sink? So that way, the washing machine could be connected under the kitchen sink whilst still allowing us to access water from the kitchen taps.

If anyone could give me an idea of if this is possible (and how expensive it may or may not be) that would be great.

Where are you going to drain the washer? Is this your TH or a rental? The simplest thing is to put 2 hose bibs or a washer connection box under the sink by cutting the CW/HW piping, installing a "T" and connect from there to the washer with regular hoses. Since you are in GB or similar, your fittings may be metric but here we typically use 1/2" copper. Don't know your labor charges there but parts here would be less than $75. If you need to install drain piping in the wall with venting, you could be facing a pretty good bill. They do make faucet hose fitting adapters so you could run directly from the faucet to the washer with appropriate hoses.

Hi dash and welcome, you could plumb into the kitchen sink for water for the washer but what would you do with the drain? And what about the vent for the dryer? It's a bigger job than just running the water lines.

Thanks very much. This is really helpful. We'd be able to drain into the pre-existing sink, so that's not a problem so long as it's possible to get a plumber in to fix the taps.

They do make faucet hose fitting adapters so you could run directly from the faucet to the washer with appropriate hoses. You can add a "Y" so you can mix the temp. No plumber needed!
