    Washer drain
    My washing machine drain overflows on the first and second rinse cycle. I was wondering if there was something I could do to fix it or do I need to call a plumber.

    Hi MelissaA

    It sounds like the drain line needs to be snaked to clear a blockage. If the washing machine is the lowest drain in the house then this periodic overflowing could be a sign that the main drain itself is having issues.

    Probably best to consult a plumber on this one.

    If snaking the line don't get it there is a easy fix! I had the same problem. The stronger more powerful washer pumps put more volume then the system can handle, The solution is to make it a closed system by connecting the washer hose tom the washer stand pipe. This can be done several ways,
    You can use fittings, (see image) or simply do what I did years ago and that is to wrap duct tape around the hose and stand pipe sealing it off. The washer drainage will be forced down the pipes with no backups. I have been advising this for years with no complaints, Good luck, Tom
