How to wire an ac solenoid switch to ac power cord?
    Hey,

I have an Ehcotech 120vac solenoid with two small black wires. I would like to wire it to an ac power cord. The wires to the solenoid are very small diameter: 18 or 20 awg, I'm really not sure. Are there any particular components that I need to wire the cord and relay together?

    Thanks guys --

This is more of an electronics question than straight electrical.

What is solenoid going to control when it is picked or released?
What are the voltage and amperage required by the solenoid to pick?
How are you planning to control the On/Off of current flow to the solenoid?
How are you planning to control the duration of the pic?
How are you planning on supplying the ground shot or voltage/amperage shot?

Is this a homework question because you sure left out an awful lot of information.

You just need a power cord, the solenoid and a momentary or maintained switch to handle the current of the solenoid(most should work as solenoids draw little power.
The switch should be on the hot side.
The neutral connects to one side of the solenoid, the hot goes from the cord to the switch then the solenoid.
Could use a fused cord for protection and safety.
