    Beagle might be pregnant
    Yes I have a female Beagle I believe she is 8 months old.. I am wondering if she could be pregnant how I could check? And how long a Beagle is Pregnant? If you can help I would appriciate it..

    Ricque, the best way to know absolutely if your dog is pregnant is to bring her in to a vet to be examined. If she is pregnant, he will be able to tell you how far along she is and when the due date is.

    If she is not pregnant, you may want to consider having her spayed so you don't have to worry about her getting pregnant.

    Yes, get her to the vet. The vet really won't be able to tell is she is pregnant until about a month after she was bred. If she isn't pregnant or even in season, get her spayed quick before she is. Unless you really went off the deep end and made a huge commitment to quality breeding before you selected her, it is best to spay pets before 6 months. I am part of a very serious breeding program and have gone through a female having her first season a number of times, and believe me, you don't want to do it. The mess, the behavior problems, attempts to get loose, risk of accidental breeding, etc. is nothing any sane person does. You can always count on them choosing the worst possible time too.

    If the vet says she is in season or pregnant, post back with more questions. Also ask why he didn't spare you the whole thing by suggesting spaying her before.

    Well I want her to be able to have puppies, I just wanted to know the answer to the ? That I asked.. Not a long paragraph saying I need to get her spayed.. I have plans for these puppies.. I know what I am doing as far as raising them and all.. So thanks for all of your help

    Well, that is a surprise! You know what you are doing, but you don't even know how to figure out if your puppy is pregnant by taking her to the vet for a simple check up? What are you talking about, "I have plans for these puppies". Sounds like a "mad scientist" is speaking. What a strange thing to say!

    We try to keep our personal opinions to ourselves, but please be aware of the fact that this is a public forum. labman and I work with dogs. Shame on you for questioning his recommendation, when it appeared from your post that you were someone who was concerned about their dog being pregnant. You didn't mention anything about intentional breeding. A spayed dog is a happy, healthy, and even tempered dog. Look at my avitar. We see so many "backyard breeders" out to make a quick buck. We also see so many dogs euthanized by shelters because there aren't enough homes to go around. Do you really know everything there is to know about breeding? Have you ever had a female dog before? Do you know how much of a pain in the butt it is cleaning up her menses and dealing with the "moods swings" when she is in heat? Not to mention how much time and attention it takes once the puppies are born, the disgusting poop and peeing messes you have to deal with 10 times a day? The deworming and all the other stuff you have to deal with. If you don't, you might want to research this fully.

    P.S. You may want to do some research into Parvo virus. It can kill a whole litter and happens all too frequently.
