Running toilet- just keeps draining in the tank
I have a toilet that does not have a floating ball. It just has a flapper, attached with a plastic strip, to the handle. When the toilet is flushed, everything is fine except when the water level rises in the tank, it overflows into the overflow tube and the hose that goes into the tube just keeps sending more water down the tube. I read in another thread that the tube should be below the water level in the tank, but I don't know how to adjust the level, and I can't move the tube up. Any ideas? I wish I could attach a picture.
Thanks for any help. Right now I'm turning the water off until someone needs to use the toilet because I just can't take listening to it!

    Hi Werker

Does your setup look like the picture below? If so, it is a fluidmaster 400A toilet fill valve assembly and can usually be repaired or replaced pretty easily.

Your first effort should be to check under the washer of the toilet fill valve. Check out this video to see what I mean:

If that fails to work then you will need to replace the washer of the fill valve... check out this video to see how easily the washer is replaced... you can pick the washer up at any home depot, Lowe's, or menards home improvement store:

If this isn't your setup and is some other type of fill valve then you will be best off to simply replace the existing/malfunctioning fill valve with a new fluidmaster 400A (about $12.00 at home depot)! Purchase a new braided toilet water supply line while purchasing the new 400A valve and the job will be even easier.

    Repair/replace... up to you!

Thanks, Mark, but I don't have a 400A. I don't have a floater on the left side at all. My unit says "Hushflo", so maybe I should search that online. Do you know anything about Hushflo?

Search it online, for sure, but after I looked into it the same recommendation is made... replace it with a fluidmaster 400A!

    Good luck!
