Toilet not draining/flushing, same with the tub
A month ago we replace our toilet, found a toy at the opening. A couple of days after replacing started noticing some gurgling sounds in the kitchen sink or toilet when draining the tub and occasional flushing the toilet. Today the toilet would not flush. I went up to the stink pipe and pushed over 8 feet of hose into it and then turned on the water, even with the tub drain closed it started filling with water and the toilet did as well. After letting everything drain down there was lots of garbage in the toilet and tub and it smelled. I cleaned out what I could and then went back up and did it again. I did not get any more stuff, and it appeared cleaner water, and the smell was not so bad. But it still is slow draining and the toilet will not flush still. I then went and have put vinegar and baking soda followed by hot water after 15 minutes. The first time the toilet flushed, so did it again, and now the toilet will not flush and the tub just drains slow. I have taken apart the tub and tried plunging with a rag stuffed in the over flow with no luck and when I plunge the toilet the water backs up into the tub. We have city water/sewer so not really sure what the next step should be. I have access to a small auger and a very long snake. Should I get those and were should I use them. I would like to avoid harsh chemicals only because I have little kids and do not want them getting into them. Thanks.

Your next step is to find a clean out in your main drain. Neither the toilet nor the tub are the issue but rather a main which is downstream of both. Is the ceiling open under this bathroom like a basement?

Look for the toilet drain and then the tub drain, they come together and join a main. There should be a clean out but becareful since the backup likely has filled the drain pipe. Let it drain for a day or two or get a bucket ready when you uncap the cleanout

OK, so, that bathroom is out of commission and I will see if my husband can get down there and do this in a few days. I will repost again after it is done if that does not solve the problem.

Depending on how your home is plumbed this could get a lot worse if the clog stops up all drains in the home
