MTD Yard Machine 14.5 HP 42 inch cut-How can I tell if solenoid is bad?
Installed a new battery, cleaned carburetor, refilled gas tank with fresh gas, replaced fuel filter. When turning ignition key all I get a click at the solenoid.

    Hi,
If you get a click, it probably is bad and the high current contacts are not connecting. Testing can be done carefully with a short piece of wire routed from the battery side contact to the smaller post; this should also produce a click.
    Peace,
