    PC100 vs PC133
    My current memory is 2 slots containing one 64mb PC100 chip each for a total of 128MB. My max is 512MB. I have a chance to buy 2 256MB PC133 chips. My question is if my current chips are PC100, can I use the PC133 chips? Will they just operate at 100 speed? Please help!

    The PC133 sticks _should_ just automatically underclock to PC100. However, some (old) motherboards simply don't work with PC133 at all, so be warned...

    Howdy:

    Just to add to psi's answer, some (if not most ram manufacturers) are not making their chips backward compatible any longer..

    Try it
    Buy the memory, stick them in and see what happens.

    Or save the money, buy a new $50 Nforce 2 motherboard and upgrade your entire setup, with a new CPU and new Memory.

    You should be able to do it all up at www.newegg.com very cheaply.

    I would strongly suggest you go to www.crucial.com and search your motherboard or system..

    They will tell you what will work and are very reasonably priced.

    Also, Crucial is one of the best brands of ram on the market!
