Females are required to rest their elbows on the ground and keep their bodies as close together as possible in Sajdah. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) advised the women that when they go into Sajdah, they should place some of their flesh on the ground (referring to their elbows). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then made it very clear that the postures in the Salaah of a woman are different from that of a man. (Bayhaqi, Hadith #: 3201, narrated by Yazid bin Abi Habib)

NB. Males are required to keep their elbows away from the ground.
