    Could the gas valve (smart valve) be damaged when using a thermostat that is not compatible with the HVAC unit?

I have a totaline p474-0100 thermostat that has 6 wires. I want to replace it with a Hunter 44660 but it only shows having 4 wires. The totaline has red green yellow white orange and blue while the Hunter only calls for red green yellow and black. Any ideas?
