If a check is in my name do my parents have a right to it?
My brother and I have been getting social security since we were born. They owe my mom back pay but since we recently turned 18, my parents want me to give them the check that will be in my name. Not nobodys but mine... what should I do?

Hope that it is enough to live elsewhere. The reason for such checks is to provide for you. So uness your providing for yourself totally then they should be receiving the funds.

Also to receive them after 18 you must be in school.

Are you finsished with high school or are you still attending high school and living elsewhere?

Legally being in your name you could cash the checks being that you are over 18. Why didn't you discuss this with your parents before you left the home?

When you turn 18, the checks are yours. (You say 'will be in my name -' does that mean the first check since your b-day hasn't arrived yet?)
You have to be in school (full time).
You have to fill out a form for Social Security 3 months before you turn 18. If you haven't, you'd better hurry.
The checks end 3 months after your 19th b-day.

What does he expect to charge you with? Cashing a check made out to you is no crime.
