    Tried it all.
1 minute we had hot water the next we didn't. So I change thermostat that didn't work. Can I put new heating element in. and that didn't work. Next I replaced the breaker and that didn't work. The only thing left to do now is run new wire but it looks to me like the wire is 120 with a 240 fuse. The wires been there for approximately 40 years so I don't know what do you think

Well first of all, put your post in some context. I am guessing you are talking about an electric water heater.

Second, buy a meter so you can test things.

I am going out on a limb and guess that you have a standard, electric, duel element water heater and that you replace the lower element.

If so, it is probably the upper element that is defective. Lower element doesn't come on until the upper thermostat is satisfied.

the wire is 120 with a 240 fuse.
This confusing me, What do you mean by 120 wire? Do you mean 12 gage? And I an farther confused by a 240 fuse. A 240 what? Also in one sentence you have a breaker and in the next you have a fuse. All in all your complaint is confusing , Can you post a new one with more details? Regards, Tom

As much as I hate to suggest this, I really think you need to call a plumber and shouldn't waste any more time guessing at this! Guessing at things can get you killed!
