I have tried using Google on numerous occasions to track down the name of this film but have never succeeded. I remember seeing this black & white film a long time ago at a cinema in Putney. I do not know any of the actors or the director. At the start of the movie we see a young couple, who are home-hunting, go to view a house. They are met there by a middle-aged woman who tells them about previous residents and their experiences. We see a long series of flash-backs which suggest that the building is haunted. In the concluding scene we see the woman still talking to the couple. We see the front view of the woman who is standing against a wall. When the woman she stops speaking she gradually disappears.

I have now discovered the answer to my own question. The film is called House of Mystery (1961) and is available to watch on YouTube.
