    Toilet tank scratch vs crack
I just installed a new toilet tank and noticed a "scratch" on the bottom inside of the toilet tank. There is no corresponding "scratch" on the bottom outside of the toilet tank. I am assuming that it is just a scratch vs a crack. I know this is a stupid question but is there a way to know a scratch vs a crack? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Well if you tightened the tank to the bowl and it isn't leaking, I would say you are good to go. However, if you are concerned that it may indeed be a crack, you could take the tank back and ask for a new replacement that shows no sign of a crack.

Thanks for answering so quickly! The toilet does not leak. The scratch/crack is on one side of the upraised model number and does not extend to the bolt hole if this is important. Thanks again for sharing your expertise!

Sounds like a minor factory defect, If it doesn't leak you should be just fine, I hope you left 1/4 inch of play in the tank bolts and didn't crank them down tight.
Without that llittle "give" the first pe3rson that leans back stands a good chance of cracking the bolt holes. Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom for, your help!! I did leave some play. I learned my lesson from my last toilet tank when I was tightening the bolts and heard a crack, lol.
