    If the sentence is probation, there is NO jail time.

    Depends on the crime you committed. You could swap probation for a jail sentence- some people do that thinking serving a couple days in jail is better than a couple of months of probation. However, jail is so boring and scary, they immediately regret it. At least with probation, you can have some semblance of a life.
