Fine sand clogging checkvalve and sprinkler heads
My sprinkler person says our sprinkler heads keep getting clogged - and the checkvalve stopped working - because of fine sand going through the pipes. He said this is a sign of the well collapsing. There is considerable find sand around some of the sprinkler heads along side the driveway. My home (and well) was built in 1981, and first occupied in 1982. We bought it in 1994. Does this make sense?

Is your pump above ground or in the well?

You might try raising your wellpipe a couple of feet. Could be that the well has accumulated sand on the bottom to the point where it is near the footvalve. Raising it might solve your problem. How far down to water is it?

Are you only using the well to water your yard?

The well water is only for the yard. The well itself is underground with pipes coming up from the ground into the pump. The sprinkler guy is supposed to come back tomorrow. He is the one recommending that we get the well people. I can ask him about raising the well pipe before we bring in someone to fix the well.
