Had to answer as my toilet is doing just the same thing. My boyfriend said its called Hammer something and he made an adjustment. It went away for a bit and now its back. I live in a block of flats and have heard others making the same noise above but as yet I have not called anyone in. Guess it's a job really for a qualified plumber. Its so Loud.

Sounds like your ballcock (flush) valve. Next time you flush, take the tank top off and lift the float. If noise goes away, replace the valve.

Toilet Noise [ 12 Answers ]

One of our toilets makes a loud noise, which seems to be coming from the pipes. It kind of sounds like there may be air or that the water is having trouble getting through the pipes. The noise starts once the tank is about half empty. Any ideas?

My toilet makes a high pitched noise after being flushed. I don't have the ballcock type valve, and there is no vibration, only noise that stops after the toilet has filled.

When the toilet is flushed there is a terrible loud noise... I think that it might be air in the pipes. How do I fix this? Thanks, mwellbourne
