    Star-Ledger quiz?
So - how did folks do in the Star-Ledger trivia quiz that kept us so busy a month ago?

I got one wrong out of the 79 questions. I was happy to see that both Bing Crosby AND Barbra Streisand were acceptable answers for the question about the Oscar-nominated songs in four decades.

I was even happier to see that the writer admitted that the question about the Oscar-nominated songwriting brothers was poorly phrased.

As for the one I got wrong - my own fault. A question about the only movie to win an Oscar for best original screenplay that had no dialogue made me think it had to be a silent movie. I've even seen THE RED BALLOON, but I didn't look far enough down the list of Best Original Screenplay winners.

Ah well. As my mom (a Brooklyn Dodgers fan) used to say, "Wait'll next year!"

    How did YOU do??

Well Bill, you know I didn't take the test but I wanted to say how sorry I am that you didn't win. Since they phrased that question so poorly about the song writing brothers, did they actually have any winners? 79 out of 80 is pretty impressive. I hope I am around next year. I am not in an area where I can subscribe to the Star-Ledger, so I will definitely help you as much as possible. You will have to make sure your Private Message option on this forum is checked! :)

Thanks, Ruby. My wife is more annoyed than I am, because of all the time I spent on this quiz! I really should have double-checked that one question - especially since I got some of the harder ones right!

Correction - there were a total of 79 questions on the quiz. I got 78 right.

As for the songwriting brothers - the article in the newspaper indicated that the answer they wanted was Mack and Hal David, but because the question was phrased "poorly," they accepted any answer.

THe article said there were a "handful" of people who got all 79 questions right. Of those, one guy was picked at random as the winner.

Next year there will be 80 questions, I assume, because next year will be the 80th Academy Award ceremony. So it goes. Next year, I double check EVERYTHING!!

    Thanks for the support.

    Bill
