This is a young adult book, it was at least published by 2000. It was set in a sort of apocolyptic future. It opens up as a group of young people are graduating from the high school/institution where they have always lived. They are eagerly awaiting to see if they have been assigned jobs, or if in this new apocolyptic world they are unable to do anything that robots cannot do. A group of young people are deemed unusable and move into a warehouse together. At some point, they become involved in a virtual reality game that they play as a group. In this game they travel to distant lands and have to survive in the wilderness. Finally, at the end of the book, they are transported in another world in the game--but soon they realize that they HAVE actually been sent to another planet. At first they are angry, but then they learn to survive, and at the end, they are grateful that the world they left behind chose them to populate a new world.

I think the lead characters name was LISA. I thought it was called THE GAME but I cannot find it.
