It was said Johnny Appleseed planted apple seeds but the trees were no good except for cidar because the trees were planted from seed and not grafted from a gret tasting apple.Is it the same for the other fruit trees too.Confusing so please let me know the facts... Thanks

His real name was John Chapman and was a forerunner of conservation, planting and cultivating, teaching and giving apple seeds to the pioneers and native indians in the Pennsylvania, Virginia areas. Wherever he went he planted apple trees.

I can see where this rumour came from, he planting apple trees that were only good for cider, as any old apple tree will be past its prime for bearing good fruit.

No, whatever he planterf and nurtured for himself or anyone else turned into a first class apple tree. He had a master's green thumb.

Yes I question that too, mainly untruths, rumours. No he was a bona fide conservationist, way ahead of his time, in fact many of his 'ways and means' of naturalism are still adhered to today/

Almost all fruit trees are grafted onto another stock. They use a long growth stock and graft the "hybrid" onto it. .

Yes, I agree to, in fact have gone through that process not only with an apple tree but pear trees. Appleseed didn't use this method, but being one of the first horticulturists probably knew all of the old world processes to develop new breeds, but everything tells us he used apple seeds, probably many varieties to produce trees throughout the north eastern area. He had an entirely new area to work in and probably wanted to take full advantage of the climate and conditions to see what would happen with his seeds.
