Water from all our faucets does not get hot unless we run some cold water from a different faucet. For example, to get the water in the shower to get hot, if we run the cold water at the bathroom sink, it then gets hot. The only exception to this is the utility sink in the laundry room which is right next to the hot water heater. Why are we having this problem?

No recirc system. The problem has been ongoing but seems to have gotten worse.

If you have a clothes washer, I suggest closing one of the stop valves (hot or cold) for the washer and see what happens.
