How hard is it to stop having a representative payee?
If you have experience with this or know someone who went through this process, successfully or not, please tell me how long it took and whether it was complicated. I know the part about having a letter from a doctor but what if the payee (mother) also has reason to question this & cannot be shown to be misusing the money? The disability involved is bipolar, which has issues with spending & impulsivity for many. Please be nice; there's a lot at stake & I would value your experience.

I am also in NY, if it matters.

Are you asking about SS Disability or something else? State benefits? Private benefits?

Much depends on why a representative was appointed initially, if those circumstances have changed significantly.

Yes, I've been through the process. As I said, it depends on circumstances then and now.

If court appointed due to illness, it will be hard, they will need to go to court to prove there is no longer an issue with the illness.

You only have one really important thing to decide Jesus , yes or no. Why worry? In this life there are only two things to worry about. Either you will be rich or poor. If you are rich, there is nothing to worry about.
