... for the title of a movie I saw one day on AMC. Thought it was a Humphrey Bogart flick, but I've searched through all his work on IMDB and can't find a thing.

This was a black/white movie. I remember that one of the main characters had a dinner party. Things were going fine until a bulb on the phonograph went out and the music stopped. Because dancing was no longer an option, the group opted to engage in conversation. I remember that the conversation led to a building of tension in the room, which somehow led to uninvited guests showing up. At least one of them was a criminal, and I believe someone was killed that evening.

And then suddenly, the screen goes dark, and the story goes back to the moment when the bulb goes out, only this time, the hostess finds a replacement bulb and the dinner party continues with none of the above experiences. Kind of a twist slash alternate ending meets dream sequence.

Can anyone tell me the name of this movie? I'm dying to know!
